8/27/2023 0 Comments Which piezo pickup for bass build![]() I didn't look into that because I want to keep the original preamp from the bass, but it's still interesting to know, if you have passive pickups and don't want a specific preamp for them, and if you don't want a stereo output. Now what I don't know is if it's possible to have one preamp that would work for both the pickups (assuming they are passive) and the piezo. They can be used as pickups for various musical instruments, such as acoustic guitars, violins, cellos, double-bass (aka upright bass), ukuleles and mandolins (etc.), and also as accelerometers. ![]() Of course you could replace that section with another preamp, if you want something more complex with an eq for example. Introduction Piezo transducers are common in a range of different areas. ![]() The passive tone and volume control, working exactly like on a passive bass, could be before or after the preamp, if I understood correctly it doesn't make a significant difference. I can make new schematics if you want, I like doing that.Īnd the main thing, the piezo preamp, like I said it's a Tillman. Or have only the mono mode and the mixer permanently on. Some piezo pickups and contact mics have considerable capacitance (12nF or more), and these can work with a lower input impedance. You could also have a Billy Sheehan style output, with one jack for the pickups and one for the piezo, so no need for an on board mixer. You could also use a passive mixer, but that would reduce the output level. I used one of the switches on a jack to cut the power from that mixer in stereo mode, to save battery. The mixer is necessary because of the two preamps. It also has a Rickenbacker style mono/stereo output, with an active mixer for the mono mode. In this sense, a guitar with a piezo pickup is really still an acoustic instrument the acoustic vibrations are just being amplified, in a similar manner to playing into a microphone. Just replace it with whatever is on your bass. A piezo, on the other hand, has nothing to do with magnets: it picks up vibrations only. It's for an active bass that already has a preamp, so you might want to ignore the pickups and pickups preamp section. Similarly, please send any comments or critiques to the moderators. MK Sound Gate II pickup is hand built and easy to use, no changes need to be made or disassemble anything of the instrument, just insert the pick-up in the bridge arch, tighten the adjusting screw slightly, insert the jack holder into the tailpiece, connect to amplifier and play.Previous AMAs FAQ and Wiki Bass Resources 2016 Official Pedals Thread Follow /r/bass on Twitter Related Communities Other InstrumentsĬheck the sidebar, the FAQ, and search for your answer before making a post. There is a length variator that allows the pickup to adapt at all acoustic double bass bridges's measurements. With the P-style, one coil works with the E and A strings, the other with the G and D strings. But the coils don’t pick up all strings simultaneously. Just like humbuckers, p-style pickups are basically double-coil models. Artec have a long history of providing great value pickups with above. The third type was first used in the Fender Precision Bass and is therefore also known as the P-style pickup. MK Sound Gate II pickup with its wooden structure is able to capture the most intimate nuances of our instrument, more, the output signal can be pre-amplified, if desired. This Artec piezo transducer pickup lets you connect your guitar to an acoustic preamp. The insertion of the pickup inside the arc of the bridge is an effective way to amplify the double bass, which has always been a difficult goal to achieve, amplify at best means feel the voice of our instrument with all its harmonics, but stronger, so amplified. Sound Gate II represents the second generation of the MK piezo pickup that allows you to amplify the acoustic double basses, studio and live tests have given us very good sensations, the sound is very natural. The principle remains the same as the previous version, it fits into the arch of the bridge, but piezo transducer working is totally different. Sound Gate II is the latest evolution of the acoustic double bass pickup that MK produces.
